Fireplace Trends & Inspiration

The fireplace is often the focal point of a room. There so many different options to dress up your fireplace -whether it’s tile, stone or cement, to name a few. Below I’ve gathered a few of my favorites. Whichever you choose always keep in mind that not only can a fireplace be a conversation piece, but also a family space that you often gather around. If only I had enough rooms to place all these gorgeous fireplaces in!

Rustic Loft Living

Recently I was contacted to style and decorate a space for my sister-in-law. She recently moved to a small loft apartment in a big city. Below is a peek at the design board I worked on. Keeping in mind her small space living and style I designed a home she could live, work and entertain in. Using features such as-folding wall scones, storage ottomans, wall shelves, nesting side tables, and a neat adjustable height desk that turns into a dining room table for entertaining.

Spring Projects

I often take on projects…well ok if you ask the Mr. He will say I take on TOO many projects! That’s what creative minds do-am I right? Last fall my son and I came across a rather large estate sale, I’m going to be honest and say, it took me a few days to rummage through it all! One of the purchases I made was an intricate vintage dresser, it was a steal for under $60!!
With the chaos of opening a store front ( did I mention that yet?!- I’m super excited you guys! ) and the busy holiday season, I haven’t had a chance to paint it until now.
I want you to know that anyone can do this-it’s really easy to paint older furniture with chalk paint. My favorite chalk paint to use is Annie Sloan, however I was rather anxious-if you know me this is not a surprise! I also use Rustoleum Chalk Paint in Linen White or Gray. The colors are very similar almost identical to Annie Sloan, and at a lower price. OK so I though it would be fun to post a photo of the dresser and have all my fellow followers vote for the wining color. So below is the before and after…I haven’t decided if I will change out or paint the hardware, I do really think the antique brass is perfection! What do you all think??? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Spring Fever

It was so cold here this week! Anyone else ?? I didn’t let that stop me from gathering a few spring items to add into the mix. I love adding green succulents into everyday items to bring the outdoors in. Where ever you can set a little green around your home-do it!

Lanterns or hurricanes are one of my favorite places to add fresh or faux plants. its instant color to any room-a little green goes a long ways! 😉

Kindly,
Jessica

Organize & Declutter

January can feel long and cold for some. All the holidays have come to an end and guests slowly scatter home. I like to take this time to regroup and organize. One of my favorite items to place around the home are baskets. Vintage baskets add so much texture and dimension to any space. I love finding architectural and unusual finds and displaying them on interior walls. I recently found these large ( I mean ENORMOUS-these could be flying saucers, or so my kids thought so ) antique basil baskets. They were of course a bright cherry wood color – sorry I’m not a fan. So what do I do??? Slather a little stain on them, of course. I love how they turned out. Remember, to be creative, and think out of the box, when rummaging through antique stores or local shops. Baskets of all sorts can be both useful and never go out of style.
